Happy Holidays 2019!

Happy Holidays 2019

Dear Family and Friends,

As we are closing in a decade, we would like to express our gratitude for your support!!! Without YOU, it would not have been possible for us to achieve our mission and goals for the past two and a half decades. Our non-profit organization is staffed by volunteer Board Members, so all donations go straight to our missions. I would like to share what FRAXSOCAL has been up to this year as 2019 comes to a close.

FRAXSOCAL Loves Education! We had a workshop on IEP process this spring and have an upcoming workshop on how to have the “sex talk” with our special needs pre-teens and teens. Both workshops are taught by our very own Dr. Ioana Pal!!! Dr. Pal is clinical psychologist at the Stramski Children’s Developmental Center, Fragile X Clinic, at Memorial Care Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Long Beach CA, where she supports the medical team along with Dr. Gary Feldman and Melissa Frey (program coordinator), through psychological assessments, appropriate referrals, treatment recommendations and support for patients and their families. FRAXSOCAL also participated in many resource fairs throughout the year, including Stephanie’s Day at CBS Studios, Wrightslaw Conference Resource Fair, Abilities Awareness Fair in Whittier, and CSUN Resource Center where we educated people on Fragile X Syndrome.

FRAXSOCAL hosted four Family Fun Days this year!!! We started off the year with our 7th Annual 5K for Fragile X with 150 people in attendance. This was a fun day filled with exercise, awareness, family fun and pizza. LOL! In the summer, we hosted a fun day Scooter’s Jungle Indoor Playground. Lastly, on November 10th, we got together for one of our favorite events: Bowling at Cal State Fullerton!!! All of these events allow our FX family, new and existing members, to gather together for a day of fun at no cost to them. Families are able to share their stories with each other, get new ideas and support each other in this FX journey.

FRAXSOCAL Supports! We love to give the National Fragile X Foundation, the MIND Institute, FRAXA Research and our local Fragile X Clinic at the Stramski Center! We are so grateful for our local FX clinic and to Dr. Gary Feldman and Dr. Ioana Pal who help our families get local treatment.

We are EXCITED for a new decade to better serve our community as well as fulfill our mission! Our mission includes: promoting awareness of Fragile X Syndrome with a special emphasis on educators and health professionals, providing a forum for families and children with Fragile X to meet and share their ideas, concerns and problems, and support scientific research on Fragile X Syndrome.

Donate to FRAXSOCALIn order to strive to accomplish these goals, we need your continued support. Please consider helping FRAXSOCAL by a 100% tax-deductible donation. Any amount is greatly appreciated and always makes a difference.

We want to acknowledge all those who help by volunteering  their time and talents to our organization! You know who you are but we really want to understand how much you are appreciated and necessary to fulfilling our mission!!!

Sincerely yours,
Jennifer Newsome
